Maddox Cruz Poey, our amazing 7 month old son, was diagnosed on Aug. 5th with bilateral retinoblastoma (eye cancer). We were immediately sent to the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia to seek the best possible medical treatment for our son’s disease. The doctors found 6 tumors in his left eye and 2 tumors in his right eye. We experienced the most terrifying days of our lives as we waited to find out if the cancer had spread to his brain. The most amazing sense of relief and hope came rushing through us when we were informed that the cancer had NOT spread. Maddox began chemotherapy treatments on Aug. 10th to shrink the tumors in his eyes. The doctors have told us that there is a possibility that Maddox will lose his eye(s) and/or his vision, depending on how he responds to the chemotherapy. The doctors also told us to PRAY, because they have seen miracles happen!
Please PRAY for our son. Please send your LOVE to him. Please BELIEVE that he will recover completely from this condition, and regain his vision. We know that Maddox has a special purpose and mission to accomplish in his life. We believe that he will inspire the world with his story of miracles.
We are not wasting any of our time or energy asking “why” or feeling sad and afraid. We know that with God, all things are possible. We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who is offering their support as we go on this journey. Our mission is to get Maddox through his chemo treatments successfully, help him fully recover, and THEN use our story to do ALL that we can to help others in need.
We plan to use “MIRACLES FOR MADDOX” to raise money to help other families in similar situations and contribute to childhood cancer research. We want ONLY good & beautiful things to come from this experience. We believe that is God’s plan.
Please remember Maddox’s smiling face during the next challenge or “problem” you encounter. Put your “problems” in perspective and thank God for all of the blessings in your life. Appreciate your health, your family, your friends, and each breath you are able to take... every moment of every day. Think about how Maddox is fighting this cancer with a smile on his face, and let that inspire you to stay positive and persevere through whatever obstacles you may face.
